Hello lovelies, stuck at home as we all are once again, today I thought I'd chat to you from a more personal perspective and give you a little insight into where I get some of my creative inspiration from... it goes back a long, long way!
When I was a small girl just starting school, I was entered into a strange and experimental reading program called the Initial Teaching Alphabet or ITA. To simplify, it was a modified alphabet formed of slightly different letter symbols used to spell words phonetically in order to make reading for infants easier to learn - supposedly (Although I still struggle with my spelling!)
During this period I had one solitary story-book printed in the ITA language and for a long time it was the only book at home that I could read for myself.... Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. I loved that book, especially the illustrations! I read it over and over, drew on the pages, chewed on the cover and took it to bed with me. It became a part of me, burned into my psyche and I still have it on or around my work desk today.
Needless to say Beatrix Potter has been a huge influence on my creative style and you can see evidence of this not only in my patterns but also on the cover design of my tutorial booklets. They're my own small homage to her legacy and a little talisman to myself, a reminder of where I'm coming from! (minus the bad spelling I hope!) xx
